The end of days was not everything the oracles raved about in the years prior. It was terrible, millions died, but surprisingly, civilization carries on.

178 years ago, the crags in the north widened, and terrible beasts crawled from whatever dark lands they may lead to. History remembers these creatures as Fiends. Many of those from the City have never seen one in person, but the statues are supposed to be very lifelike. The Old Northern Kingdoms fell in a matter of years.

Historians from the era tell us that the Empire and Cantoria them north of the Dalia River for 10 years. The Darkwar carried on for 30 years, before Emperor Rheanor IX and King Achemides from Laudinia finally pushed them back to the Oldwalls, but those ancient mountains once used to keep invaders from taking the North, now made the Fiends unbesiegeable. Many legendary heroes were forged and brought low in those final battles. I elaborate on such distinguished men in my editions of Heroes of the Darkwar.

153 years ago, Nevaria became the Free City. There had been unrest due to the senate refusing to make it the capital city of Eostelos. Restrictive taxes had been in place for decades to keep the populace in line, but current opinion is that rebellion was inevitable. Perhaps, had the Fiends not arrived, the City would still be under the rule of The Emperor.

123 years ago, the lords of mainland Cantoria united into the Principality of Tyr, and declared independence from their Queen. There has been war in the east ever since.

Other factions have remained or have formed since the Darkwar as well, though these can be read about in my editions of Eostelos and the Lesser Nations.

I will continue to elaborate upon these events and others in this edition, and in later editions thereafter.
